A scooter tiller is where the controls are kept. There will be a lever of some type which has to be pushed to relieve the brakes and deliver power to the electric motor that activates the scooter. When the lever is released the motor halts and the brakes quickly reactivate.

The scooter key or switch which turns on the scooter is situated on the tiller also. For convenience most tillers can be changed forward or back to best support the reach of the individual.

Scooters can have a Delta tiller, with wrap-around, D-shaped steering handles, or T-shaped handlebars similar to a bike.

On some scooters, the tiller can be tweaked for height, pulled nearer to you or pushed away. This can be helpful if one cannot stretch his or her arms very far or require extra space to turn when getting on and off the scooter.

Check that the tiller is simple for you to adapt and that it is as versatile as you want it to be.

Your hands will be located closer together on a delta tiller, which can make it is simpler to turn the scooter if you get pain and/or solidity in your arms and shoulders.

T-shaped handlebars may feel more normal, but if the controls are on the handlebars you may find them challenging to use when turning the scooter on complete lock.
